The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai has matriculated four thousand and sixty-one fresh students into its various academic programmes, with a charge by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu for them to exhibit good conducts that would promote the positive image of the Institution.

Addressing the newly admitted students at Matriculation Ceremony held at the AbdulSalam Abubakar Convocation Arena, Main Campus, the University’s Chief Executive Officer disclosed that a total number of fourteen thousand, eight hundred and fifty-three applications were received for both JAMB UTME and Direct Entry in 2019/2020 academic session who made IBB University their first choice of admission.

Professor Adamu explained that after painstakingly perusing the applications, only half of the number was found to meet the requirements for admission; stressing that with the approved carrying capacity for the University, only four thousand, sixty-one students could be accepted.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the new students to maximize the opportunity by ensuring that they make academic excellence their topmost priority.

He also advised them to shun any tendency that could distract them from realizing their dreams, pointing out that conscientious efforts have been made by the Management of the University to provide state-of-the-art facilities in order to enhance their learning.

Professor Adamu further stated that IBB University has fundamental rules guiding its operations and must be obeyed by all or face the full wrath of the law.

The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that deliberate efforts are being made by the Management to continue to expand the Institution’s carrying capacity through bringing on board in no distant time, College of Health Sciences for the commencement of Medical programs by 2020/2021 academic session.

Other programmes to be introduced, he said, are Faculties of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Law and Engineering from 2021/2022 to 2023/2024 academic sessions respectively.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, “we are accountable to our students, the public and all stakeholders in managing the resources wisely and keeping promises”. He, therefore, enjoined all stakeholders to demonstrate self-control in challenging situations.

Professor Adamu advised students to always recognize and respect diverse views and ideas so as to ensure a peaceful learning environment.

The Registrar, Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi administered matriculating oath on the new students.

The occasion was blended with moral talks on both Islamic and Christian perspectives by Sheikh Umaru Dada Paiko and Professor James Omonu of Human Kinetic and Health Education of the University.

And in its tradition of recognizing hard work, students with the highest CGPA in each Departments of the University were awarded the Institution’s scholarship for one year.

The drama group of the English Department of the University thrilled the event with a playlet.

Other highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of Medals and Certificates to students who represented the University at the West African Universities Games held at Port-Harcourt; and presentation of a trophy won by the University Basketball team at the Dahase Higher Institutions Basketball Competition held in Minna.

Giving a vote of thanks, the Registrar, Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi appreciated all and sundry, particularly dignitaries who graced the ceremony and those that contributed in one way or the other in making the event a successful one.
